The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) was established in 2011 to serve the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessment and credentialing physicians. Certification as an ABOM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care. Physicians who complete the ABOM certification process in obesity medicine are designated Diplomates of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. The ABOM administers the Certification Examination for Obesity Medicine Physicians once per year.
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must meet all requirements, complete the ABOM application, pay the designated fee, and receive an authorization-to-test email. For additional information, visit the ABOM website or contact the ABOM certification team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All requests for testing accommodations should be made through the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) during the application process. If you have already been approved to test by ABOM and would like to add accommodations to your testing record, please contact ABOM at email@example.com.
Scheduling your examination
Once you have received an authorization-to-test email, you may schedule your examination appointment. The email will inform you of the date range you may take the examination and will provide you with a 20-character candidate (PTI ID) number. Examination appointments may be made up to 48 hours in advance and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
To schedule, reschedule or cancel your examination appointment:
Online: You must first create a Pearson VUE web account. When creating your web account, use the same First and Last names and 20-character candidate (PTI ID) number as noted in your authorization-to-test email. For any issues with your online Pearson VUE account, the quickest way to reach a customer service agent is via LET’s CHAT.
Via Phone: Contact Pearson VUE at 888-228-0147 (US/CAN).
NOTE: To facilitate locating your record, tell the agent that Professional Testing (PTI) sponsors the ABOM examination.
After scheduling your examination appointment, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation email listing your examination date and time, the test center address, along with important policies for your review and information. Confirmation emails are sent for every schedule, reschedule and cancellation of examination appointments. If you do not receive a confirmation email, verify the status of your examination appointment online or via phone as described above.
