Operating under the authority of the American Osteopathic Association
The AOBOO-HNS is one of 18 certifying boards of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and is regulated by its Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists to administer examinations. These examinations are one part of the certification process for physicians seeking AOA certification and continuous certification in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Facial Plastic Surgery. The function of AOBOO-HNS is to identify those practicing physicians who are eligible for examination to become certified by the AOA in Ophthalmology or Otolaryngology – Facial Plastic Surgery. The examinations measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of an ophthalmologist or otolaryngologist in order to make competent judgements in the care of patients.
Certification Application
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:
- submitted all application materials directly to the AOBOO-HNS; and
- received written confirmation from the AOBOO-HNS of exam eligibility and scheduling.
Scheduling
First-time test takers will receive, via email from AOBOO, exam scheduling instructions and candidate ID number. Upon receipt of this information, candidates may sign in or create an account to schedule their regional test site. This email notification from AOBOO will be sent to the email address provided on your exam application. If the email address you originally provided to AOBOO is no longer accurate, you must resolve the discrepancies before you schedule your exam. Appointments may be made up to one week prior to the exam date.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation email listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
Your examination results will NOT be available at the test center. Results will be mailed to you by AOBOO.
