Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE®)
The CPNRE® entry-to-practice examination is a competency-based examination. Success on the CPNRE® depends on knowledge of practical nursing principles and content and ability to apply this knowledge.
Examination Application & Scheduling Information
Before scheduling an appointment with Pearson VUE to take the examination at a test centre, you must have already:
- Applied to and received from your provincial/territorial regulatory authority confirmation to take the examination.
- Received an “Authorization to Test” email from Pearson VUE advising that you can proceed to schedule to take your exam at a Pearson VUE test centre. This email from Pearson VUE will provide instructions on how to schedule an appointment at a Pearson VUE test centre.

Scheduling
Once you have received an “Authorization to Test” email from Pearson VUE, follow the “Instructions for Scheduling your Appointment” section outlined in the email. When scheduling an appointment, you will need information that is contained in the “Authorization to Test” email from Pearson VUE, including the “Candidate ID” provided in the email. It is recommended that you schedule your appointment well in advance of the “Authorized Dates” indicated in the “Authorization to Test” email.
