Take your LPI exam conveniently from home through OnVUE online proctoring. A live proctor will monitor you through the webcam on your workstation to provide a secure exam experience.

Registration

Before scheduling an appointment with Pearson VUE, you must first register with LPI and obtain an LPI ID. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. You will need this number to create an account with Pearson VUE.

As we update and publish new versions of our certifications,​​ we will allow a 6-month period in which you can choose either the new or old exam objectives. You may take any version of the exams and they will count toward your certification equally. This includes mixing different versions of the exams.

Before retaking an exam after the first failure, you must wait seven (7) days. For the second or subsequent failures, you must wait thirty (30) days before retaking the exam. Anyone who passes an exam may not retake the exam for at least two (2) years. Note that different versions of an exam are still considered the same exam for the purposes above. Linux Essentials is a Professional Development Certificate program for those new to Linux. The Linux Essentials credential is ideal for those starting a career in Linux or for those in an IT role where validated basic Linux skills are important.

  • Requirements: Pass the Linux Essentials 010 exam. The Linux Essentials exam contains 40 questions and must be completed within 60-minutes.

Linux Professional Track

The Linux Professional Track is designed to evaluate the knowledge and skills of Linux systems administrators. To keep pace with evolving technology, the exam objectives are updated on average every three years and Linux Professional Institute certifications are valid for five years before you must recertify or certify at a higher level. Although the exams may be taken in any order, lower level certifications must be achieved before higher-level certifications can be awarded.

Open Technology Track Certification Program

Open Technology Track

The Open Technology professional certification series is designed to evaluate the knowledge and skills of open technology tools, such as DevOps tools and BSD Specialist. To keep pace with evolving technologies, open technology track exam objectives are updated on average every three years and certifications are valid for five years before you must recertify or certify at a higher level. For Open Technology certifications, single exam is awarded with certification, and there are no prerequisites for the exams.
