PTA Global Certification graduates will hold the designation of Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). The exams are designed to ensure individuals have the knowledge and skills to successfully work in the health and fitness industry one-on-one or in group setting with clients attempting to make health and lifestyle changes.
For detailed information on individual Certification requirements, please visit ptaglobal.com and review the PTA Global Exam Candidate Handbook.
To take a test, you must first complete the registration, attestation and payment process on the PTA Global website.
Schedule Your Exam
Create a Pearson VUE Account
A Pearson VUE account is required the first time a candidate schedules an appointment to take a PTA Global exam. Candidates should enter their PTA Global Student ID and first and last name. Candidates should enter their name exactly as it appears on their PTA Global authorization email. Once they have created an account with Pearson VUE, candidates will use this account for subsequent exams and to view their scores.
Locate a Testing Center
Candidates will be able to locate a Test Center authorized to administer their examination near their location.
Select a Date and Time
Candidates will sign in to their accounts and select a date and time for their exam. All available dates will be presented to them for the location they have selected. After they schedule their exam, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation email with all pertinent exam information.
Rescheduling or cancelling an exam
Candidates who need to reschedule or cancel their exam appointment can make modifications 48 hours or more prior to their exam appointment date and time by logging into their Pearson VUE account or by calling Pearson VUE Customer Service directly for an additional fee of $10.
A service fee of $10 will be applied to all exam reservations, reschedules, or cancellations completed by calling Pearson VUE Customer Service.
There is no fee to create or use your Pearson VUE account for exam reservations, reschedules, or cancellations.
On the Testing Date
A test candidate should arrive at the test center 30 minutes before their scheduled appointment time, allowing adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. Candidates should be prepared to show one form of identification with a photograph and signature, have their digital photo taken and provide a digital signature. If a candidate arrives more than 15 minutes late for their appointment, they may be refused admission and potentially forfeit the exam attempt and any applicable fees.

PTA Global Certification Exams and Exam Preparation
PTA Global Certification exams are components of the Personal Trainer Certification Program. The exams are computer-based assessments of knowledge, competencies, and skills related to disciplines associated to Personal Training and use a multiple-choice format. There are 120 questions on the exam of which 20 are for psychometric analysis and 100 are used for scoring.
As preparation for the PTA Global Certification exams, courses and/or study materials are available. For more information please visit ptaglobal.com/find-a-course. These courses are not the only route to obtaining your CPT credential. Nor does PTA Global imply that their education courses are the only or preferred route to preparing for the CPT exam.
Your PTA Global account includes a 100-question practice exam you may take as many times as you wish, and it is also highly recommended you review the PTA Global Exam Candidate Handbook which includes the exam content domains.
PTA Global Certification Program Agreement
Prior to starting a PTA Global Certification exam, you will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions of the PTA Global Certification Program Attestation.
Exam Retake Policy
Candidates who show up late, do not have proper documentation, miss a scheduled exam appointment or do not pass the certification exam on the first attempt and wish to retake the exam will be allowed to retest after a one-week waiting period. If the candidate is unsuccessful after the second attempt, he/she will be required to wait thirty (30) days between subsequent exam attempts. Exam retakes must be taken within 60-days of exam purchase. The CPT exam may not be taken more than three (3) times. Eligibility to retake an exam, under extraordinary circumstances, can be reviewed by the PTA Global Certification Board Disciplinary and Appeals Committee. Please see the Appeals section of the Exam Candidate Handbook for more information.
Retest requests are made using the PTAG CPT Exam Retest Request Form found on the PTA Global Certification Forms Page and submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org, or you may call the PTA Global customer service team at 877-647-0690 during regular business hours excluding holidays and weekends.
All exam candidates should be aware that there is more than one (1) version of the CPT Exam, and exam candidates should therefore be prepared to learn and understand the job knowledge and skill sets required of a personal trainer to pass the CPT Exam.
