Certificates and Qualifications
CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting
The Certificate in Business Accounting is CIMA’s entry level accounting qualification for students with little or no accounting background.
The certificate level gives you business experience beyond just financial accounting and you’ll gain insight into how the different areas of accounting relate to the business world.
It can be seen as a knowledge refresher course or a foundation to a career in business and finance. The Certificate in Business Accounting forms the basis of the CIMA Professional Qualification and is a valuable qualification on its own.
CGMA Designation
Created through a joint venture of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation recognises the unique role played by men and women at organisations around the world who combine accounting and financial expertise with strategic insight to guide better business decisions.
It demonstrates management accounting expertise in such areas as strategic management and making informed decisions; helping organisations manage change, risk and uncertainty; protecting corporate assets; and promoting operational efficiency and effectiveness.
CIMA Professional Qualification
The CIMA Professional Qualification is recognised worldwide as the most relevant global finance qualification for business.
As a CIMA-qualified professional, you will be able to drive business success. You will use your financial knowledge to influence strategic decisions and manage performance.
Before you can get started on the Professional Qualification, you will need a foundation in business or accounting studies by completing the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting or by holding a relevant academic qualification.
The syllabus is split into three subject pillars as well as three levels which test operational, management and strategic competencies. The syllabus comprises 12 exams; nine are multiple-choice objective tests, and three are case studies. All are computer-based.
CIMA’s study and robust assessment methods mean that the real-life skills and competencies employers need are woven into the syllabus. The syllabus is strong on the core accounting skill, but also includes Big Data, sustainability, integrated reporting and finance function transformation. We also study risk, as well as costing and cost management.
Passing your CIMA assessments at every level shows to an employer that you have a grasp of theory and practice.
We’re the first global accountancy body to pioneer a combination of computerised assessments to examine our syllabus. This reflects the wider use of technology in education and industry.
Our syllabus and assessment gives you a robust and flexible learning experience to suit your lifestyle.
Apprenticeships
CIMA offers end point assessments for Level 4 and Level 7 Apprenticeships in England.
Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship
The Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician apprenticeship end-point assessment builds on CIMA’s occupational and assessment expertise to develop a new assessment which meets the specific requirements of the standard and assessment plan, yet continues in the tradition of authentic, job task-based simulations which CIMA currently successfully delivers.
CIMA’s end-point assessment (EPA) is designed with a strong focus on increasing employability for those in junior finance roles.
Following extensive research with employers and key stakeholders, they expressed the importance of having technical skills in financial and management accounting, understanding the impact of the economic environment on an organisation and the importance of working to high ethical and corporate governance standards.
The end-point assessment will test these knowledge areas, as well as demonstrating that the apprentice has the skills and behaviours needed to apply their knowledge to a series of simulated business related tasks.
Please use the following apprenticeship link in the related links section:

Level 7 Accountancy/Taxation Professional Apprenticeship
The Level 7 Accountancy /Taxation Professional apprenticeship end-point assessment builds on CIMA’s occupational and assessment expertise. We have developed an assessment which follows CIMA’s tradition of assessing competence through authentic, task-based simulations, firmly grounded in the real world. CIMA’s end-point assessment embodies the aspirations of employers whilst allowing the apprentice to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have acquired throughout their apprenticeship programme.
The assessment design will support employers and training providers in preparing apprentices not just for successful completion of EPA, but to perform their work role to a nationally recognised standard.
